Back in, say about 2013 (give or take), it was rare to watch any beauty bloggers youtube video without there being some sort of mentioning of Sigma Beauty makeup brushes. These brushes made their way in countless tutorial, favorites video, and many description bars with a coupon code, which was in part how I made my first purchase from the company (which then lead to another, which lead to another, which lead to a trip to their physical location-where I really stocked up). Fast forward about 4 years, and now my baby sister is blossoming into a talented make up artist. My sister is a senior in high school and doesn't have make up artist level tools yet, nor the money for them. However, since the holidays are coming up and black Friday/cyber Monday deals were especially tempting this year I decided to treat my sister and I to some new makeup brushes, courtesy of Sigma's 30% off black Friday sale. This was my first time ordering from the company in about three years, mainly because their products are so solid and since I bought so many between 2013 and 2015, I haven't needed more. I placed my order on back Friday and it arrived the following Monday or Tuesday, I was not expecting such a quick delivery, but I was certainly satisfied. When my package came I was pleasantly surprised, to see that their packaging had definitely received a face lift. The old packaging was solid, but basic but I felt that the new packaging was a bit more modern and cutting edge...more eye grabbing. When you place an online order of $50 or more at sigmabeauty.com, you get a free gift which is typically a mini version of one of their brushes, so that was in my package along with all of the brushes I ordered, but this time I had another surprise, a sample (.25 fl oz) of their All Natural Brush Liquid Cleaner. I was excited bout this little gem, because I had started to buy some with my order, but decided to wait and do my research first, and what better research is there than testing out the product in question first hand!?
Well today I finally tried it and I was pretty impressed, the small sample thoroughly cleansed all 23 of the brushes(-some from Sigma, some from Elf, and some from Real Techniques) I had to clean today. It's made primarily out of coconut oil, ethically raised palm oil, and water. It has a slippery consistency, similarly to the feel of water with a little bit of soap in it. The instructions said to put a couple drops on your brush swirl your brush around and rinse with warm water, so I did just that. I found that my brushes lathered up quickly, I could see the make up rushing right out, and my brushes were not dried out by the formula. I found the cleanser to be more efficient than my previous method of cleaning, which was to mix olive oil and dish washing liquid and hope I got the measurements right (so as to not leave the brushes too oily, nor too dry). The only cons for me personally were the smell and a residue that was left on my left hand. I didn't find the smell to be offensive or chemical ridden; however, in my opinion, it was not pleasant either. I'm not too sure what happened with the residue, but my left hand was left looking like I was an honorary Gross sister from the Proud Family-it was blue-gray and had a film that I didn't notice until I looked down and saw my hand. The residue/film was rectified by a simple hand-washing. All in all, this was a great product that I am so happy I had an opportunity to try. I just wish they were sending samples of this stuff back in 2013!
